Our House

Blogs of the work that I am doing on our house in Hillsborough. This is the first time that I am redoing a house. I have done bit's and pieces on my parents house, but this time I am mostly on my own. My Fiance Barbra is helping out alot, and my family has come down for some help as well.

We finally have some furniture besides the bedroom set. All we need now is the TV to fill up that empty wall.  Posted by Picasa

Barbra today painted the outside of the house. We didn't get a chance to edge, but we are very close. it looks so much better now that the wall matches the other walls. We were lucky enough that the home owners before us left the exterior paint. This way it is an exact match.

We finally replaced the fake crystal chandelier with a more modern light fixture. We also replaced the the Buzzing fluorescent light in the Kitchen. Not we are actually starting some decorating. One note... You should not install the big chandelier when you are still working... your head will thank you for this :-)

When your fiance say's that she doesn't like a wall, what do you do? Well, you get out the sawzall and get rid of it. This is the second wall wall that was removed. It was not load bearing, and came out very easily. Just cleaning up the wall, and doing some spackling, but not too bad. Only now we have to patch the hardwood that was below it.

Just finished putting up the Sheetrock. Need to finish spackling and sanding, but it's starting to look like a room again. Can't wait to get the sanding done. It's so messy. Posted by Picasa

Well, Here are the pictures with out the wall. Looks nice and open right? Well we like it alot more so far. Just need to sheetrock, and spackle and make all the walls flat.

Well, now that the door was covered over, It was time to install the cedar siding on the house. The install went rather well. We installed Tyvek Wrap under the Cedar. We also primed the wood. It will be painted at a later date because the temperature was falling fast, and we did not want to paint if it was too cold out.

Well, I decided having my own in and out door separate was making the house look like a retail store, so we decided to remove the old door, and frame in a wall. It will look good once it is all closed up with sheet rock, but now I'm down to just 1 door.

This is the work that my brother did. There was a huge pile of brush when he was done. He removed a lot of the tree right next to the deck, and trimmed the lower 6' of branches off of the Pine Trees. What a difference. More light, and much more open.. Maybe some less needles on my car too.

Well, As you can see, we started to replace the kitchen door. My parents and my brother came down to help with this one. My dad helped with the door, and my brother did some landscaping... (I'll show pitures in my next blog). The door went pretty smooth. It's nice to have the space that we need to put in our future kitchen. If I were to do it again, I'd cut lower and install a door base to help the look on the outside. Not needed, just an afterthought.

Well, this is the first house that we have bought. The house is located in Hillsborough, NJ. In my future blog's you will see how we update this house by removing some walls, remodeling the kitchen and living room, and add some personaly touches here and there. We have been in the house for about a month, so right now I am going to be back blogging for a bit to catch up to the current progress.
